Make your move
You have the big flatscreen. You've got the Blu-ray player. You've got plenty of HD channels at your disposal. The picture looks great. But most HD sources carry more than great video. Usually, Blu-ray discs or high-definition channels also carry great-quality, multi-channel audio signals. But if you're watching using the small speakers on your great-looking TV, you'd never notice the extra sound content you get from HD sources. The solution: step up to a surround speaker system. A 7.1-channel speaker set like the SKS-HT870 will unleash all that sound content to bring you an immersive theater experience that puts you right in the action onscreen. By expanding your speaker selection, you can hear every crash and bang on your favorite action movie like never before. But you'll also get to discover nuances in the audio of your favorite shows. When it comes to your home theater, sound shouldn't be an afterthought; it should be just as good as the picture. If you agree, make the move into a surround set today.
Spend a little, get a lot
Once you've made the decision to step up your sound system, you have a lot of choices. Watts, inches, dollars, Hertz, what's the best system for you? Well, that depends on what you want to get out of your system. If you're a true audiophile looking for the best sound available, you're probably going to want to pick speakers out individually or in pairs. You'll get absolutely excellent sound, but the price can also quickly climb into the thousands of dollars. If you want to get away with spending as little as possible on your system, you'd probably be better off buying a couple of individual speakers for your front and/or center channels, or even sticking with your TV's speakers. But if you want good sound and a little more oomph than the average speaker system — without breaking the budget &mdash the Onkyo SKS-HT870 is just the system for you. It brings seven channels with 130W each to let you fully immerse yourself in sound, as well as a 290W subwoofer to let you feel the bass. The speakers play an impressive range of tones, and will look great wherever you place them. For impressive sound without spending a fortune, this set is the way to go.
Tallboys — keep your sound in order
What could be better for your surround sound experience than putting the sound up at head level? (It's a rhetorical question folks.) That's right. Nothing. If you want the full "immersion" experience, get the sound directed at your head, not your feet. Go Onkyo for getting it right. Their new tallboy speaker design elevates the center of the speaker to about three feet off the ground, giving ample scape to your soundscape. The bonus of the tallboy design? You don't need to lift a finger, or a screwdriver, in order to get the speakers to the right height. Plus, you can move them around your entertainment room at the slightest whim.

Owning a higher end Onkyo receiver I was hoping for some decent sounding Onkyo speakers. The speakers look fine enough at first glance but that is where it ends. The sound is small and lacks range. The grills of the speakers cannot be removed. The surround and rear surround speakers have only one small midrange speaker in the cabinet. You can shine a flashlight though the grill and see an inexpensive speaker and where the tweeter would be is just a cross of black tape. The front speakers are not much more. Same with the center. Vanns agreed to take the speakers back but the shipping cost were 160 dollars. Due to the cost I opted to keep them and sell them locally. Very disappointed in the quality of these speakers. I would consider this to be an entry level 7.1 channel speaker system. Nothing more. The subwoofer is adequate but it ends there. It is a bottom firing unit and I have to have the gain turned almost all the way up with the EQ favoring the bass. If you are expecting quality Onkyo sound, look elsewhere.

The first system came damaged and was replaced 3-4 weeks later in which I thought was very slow! And when UPS delivered the second one the system was left out in the rain in which it could have put in the porch under cover. This was laziness on the UPS driver and I was not a happy per person at all. Luckily nothing was damaged ! It was good that the cardboard box was thick, otherwise the second one would have gone back also. The speakers work very well and Im happy with them in the room that I placed them in. Vanns had a good price on them and the people at Vanns are nice to work with.

This 7.1 system offers pretty good sound. Much better than my old all in one box system. I paired this with my new Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver. I was on a budget and wanted to use all 7 channel speaker outputs. These fit the bill for price but Im pretty happy with the sound as well. I like a little more bass than the woofer puts out so I have another dual 12 subwoofer I already had also hooked up to this system which greatly improves the full sound. Now I feel like im part of the movie with every gun shot, conversation and musical scores. I would recommend this set up to the budget minded person who wants great sound.

It was about time to replace my 10 year old 5.1 home theater system with a newer, more powerful setup. Onkyo was my choice because of the great sound and attractive look of the system. Rather than bundled, I purchased the speakers and receiver separately. The speakers were easy to install and well labeled by location. The only drawback to this setup were the tiny wall-mount brackets on the satellite speakers. I chose to purchase a set of wall & ceiling swivel brackets for a cleaner install. The fit and finish of the equipment is impeccable and the packaging fully protected its contents during shipping.

Just recieved the speakers and all looks fine. Can't wait to try them out. However in the spec it say the Front SpeakersSKF-770 tallboy dimensions are 1031 W x 41.31 H x 1031D.... NOT TRUE! Its more like 4.5W x 41.31H x 4 D.... but maybe they measured the base plate for the tallboys to stand on, those are 10.3 ROUND! In the manual it shows the same dimensions as advertised but with a disclaimer, Specifications and appearnces are subject to change w/o prior notice ... Anyhow, hope they sound as good as their reviews... or you get what you pay for.... buyer do your homework!

Not everyone has the same space or the same hearing capacity. I must say my sister and I were very surprised about this system. I would recommend it to anyone who is on a budget and still want to get their monies worth. This is an excellent choice for someone who wants a nice speaker system but doesn't want to break the bank.

I had just purchased the 2011 Onkyo TX-NR609 AV Receiver and wanted some nice speakers to a part of the whole system. This receiver handles a 7.2 setup but, I do not have the room for the extra 2 speakers. Looking towards the future, I wanted to get ALL matching speakers now. Went out and bought 16 gauge speaker wire and wire connectors and I am very pleased with the great sound. The subwoofer causes me to look out the window for the approaching thunderstorm that is not really there! The sound clarity is so much better than what I previously had for a sound system. Working my way towards the total home AV package with HDTV and a awesome Home Theater Sound system. These Onkyo SKSHT870 speakers are helping me to achieve that goal.

I read reviews on numerous speaker systems when deciding on replacements for my Koss home theater. I settled on a Yamaha RX-V567 AV receiver which is a very nice upgrade for both my home stereo as well as home theater but left the speakers woefully inadequate. I looked at the Onkyo 750s but several reviewers rated the 870 sets sound quality as good as systems costing twice as much and I did not want to sacrifice quality for my home stereo. The system comes in a very large box and I nearly had heart palpitations when told the shipping cost, unbelievable. However, it is very easy to set up and the Yamaha has an auto calibrate for the speakers that works well. The reviewers were right about the sound quality. While not a straight across match for a good quality home stereo this system is right up there for a home theater set. You can clearly hear each of the 8 speakers individually and they sound very nice together for either movies or a music CD. They begin distorting a bit at high volume levels but by turning them down just a bit the sound quality is first class and clear. Far superior to what they replaced. For an HTIB set these are excellent stand alone speakers for any AV receiver, not something you can say about many of them. These are much better than good enough. The sub woofer could be improved upon but overall this is one of the best HTIB systems available from any manufacturer. And for a reasonable price at that. Definitely top of the line from Onkyo and better than most others. You would have to spend a lot more money to top these.

Great speaker system. I have this paired with Yamaha RX-V765 receiver and this set up rocks! Even my friend who has built many home theater systems liked the way these sound, and wants to buy the same set up for his media room. I have this set up in a 6.1 with the 2 rear speakers acting as one. Cant run the 7.1 because the stupid ceiling fan is in the way lol. Only complaint is that it should have a better mounting system. I had to drill shallow screws into the speaker to mount them on the proper wall mounts.

I did my homework and found that Vanns had a kick but system at a great price. The speakers are very attractive and fit well in my thater room. I also bought the Onkyo Sr-608 receiver too. I am using all 7 speakers plus 2 subs and the sound quality is awesome. If you want a complete system for a great price, go with the Onkyo 7.1 SKSHT870. Sounds great with Audyssey.

I had these speakers as a mix and match for my panasonic vsx 1020-k 3-D compatible receiver, and once I had my Satellite Rears done wireless with RocketFishs rear wireless kit - I had my living room Rocking. This is a 7.1 which came in a huge packing which was almost 5 tall, and the Output with the auto calibration was a joy to hear. The tall boys in the front looks and sounds great, and the photos do not justify the Top gloss finish for these and as well as the Sub. So be wary of fingerprints. A must buy which should cost several hundred more for its value.
