This CD player is everything the positive reviews speak of on this website and others. It is very important to let it settle in before passing judgement on its sonic character. It was on the bright side when I first played it, but after about 20 hours of use it has smoothed out nicely.
It seems to have great build quality and has a robust power supply which adds to its overall heft. Very well engineered piece of equipment. If you have the need for a basic, but high standard player, this could fit your needs easily. My only complaint is no IEC power cord, but hey for this price.....

I bought this CD player about a month ago. On my first disc, it sounded kind of rough like many of the lower priced players do. After I used the recomended burn in time for about 48 hours using different types of music that went from the lowest bass such as pipe organ to Country, Rock, Pop etc. and the sound greatly improved. I had a Jolida 603 tube player that sounded a little sweeter in the bass, but the disc transport was cheap and skipped after only two years. This is a very well built and great sounding player that would equal one in the 500.00 range. I am using good equipment to go with it. I use an old Phase Linear 400 amp that puts out 200Wchannel into 8 ohms that is flat from 20-20,000 hz. along with KEF reference 3 speakers. The only other thing that I can say is for the price this is a Great sounding CD player.

Using analog out with old ruby cables to utilise Wolfson DACs, have an optical cable on order to compare with Burr Browns in Onkyo 3008, matches perfectly with reciever. Very quick delivery, arrived with Onkyo HD tuner which Im also very pleased with. Best price on both at time of purchase,

I purchased the Onkyo as a dedicated CD player for a bedroom system containing an Outlaw receiver and Totem speakers. At the time of this writing, the player has been burning in for about 30 hours.
The sound is on par with blu raydvd players for CDs in the same price range. The sound is pleasant, has reasonable detail, but it does not draw you in. Female voices lose some of their sweetness, instruments are a bit rolled off at the top, and the overall sound is somewhat closed in.
I wanted to like this player a lot. It has Wolfson dacs, a headphone jack with a volume control, and is constructed well, though the CD drawer does not open or close smoothly. I am not sure if further burning in or if using an outboard dac will make things better. At this point, I would say look elsewhere for a dedicated player.

I was not sure if I would hear any difference between my old Yamaha CD player and this one.
I did. The sound is full and clear, almost LP-like. The clarity is unbelievable. Wolfson digital-to-analog converter really makes a difference. Considering the price - it is a steal.
The only complaint - aesthetics. The CD player looks like a black box made with axe or in 1960s. The remote is very long, but has very few buttons with small labels and ocean of empty space. As if it was intended for a much higher level model, so there are a lot of non-used buttons and Onkyo engineers simply covered them with empty place on the remote.
Other than that - Id recommend this player to anybody.

I bought this CD player to replace an old HK player, to be used with my Yamaha receiver and Wharfedale speakers. The first thing I noticed out of the box is that the C-7030 is well made. It has weight to it as others have mentioned, and doesnt have the flimsy plastic feel to it like the other new CD players I looked at in the stores. The tray is rock solid, opening and closing with no stutter and very little noise. It runs absolutely silently which is a great thing you dont often get at this price point. The C-7030 provides a clean sound that others here have accurately described as neutral. Ive used several MP3 discs with the C-7030, all without any problem. It handles them flawlessly with no bit rate issues, and had no problem handling a few of my discs that have taken some abuse going from home to car to home again. This is a great player by itself, but when you factor in the price, its a fantastic deal.
My one complaint is something I have to mention. The remote control is the silliest RC Ive ever seen. Its really long, has tons of unused space, tiny buttons and equally small text labeling that I need extra light to read without my reading glasses. To the folks at Onkyo, I can only say this is a great CD player, but if youre going to accompany it with an 8 or 9 inch long remote control, at least put all that space to good use by making bigger buttons!

I had read other reviews and expected this model to sound very good. Having said that, I was still surprised at how much better it sounded than playing CDs through my Onkyo DVD player. I was planning to do some A-B testing to see if it was actually better, but there was no need, I could immediately tell a very noticeable difference. Just like other reviewers had stated, I now hear details in the music that I had never noticed before. This CD player is worth every penny if clean detailed sound is important to you.

I have owned cd units since 2 times oversampling. Krell used to charge a wow for the same electronics in my 4 times over sampling sony. The Onkyo 7030 has the best electronics that you can currently get in a CD player- twenty eight times oversampling , Wolfson electronics and etc. By the way Krell on their site will not tell what they have internally now! but of course their unit is extremly heavy this is good right? The bottom line is this Onkyo unit gleans more musical information from a disk, it is neutral , imparting a wide and deep natural sound field. You disks will sound new and more interesting lending more insight into the music. All this at a very affordable cost. And by the way You can turn it into a Krell just put a brick on it.

Managed to snare a unit in the clearance section here at Vanns.
Connected the unit to my HK 3490 receiver using digital coax with no problem whatsoever.
#1 impression of the unit is silence. Silent operation. No background noise. Blessed quiet.
Quality of reproduction is excellent. Piano sounds like piano. Horns like horns. Voices totally nuanced.
Before making this purchase, I considered cd players in all price ranges. Made this selection after digesting the reviews here at vanns.com and elsewhere.
It was totally the right choice.
This unit replaces a 12-or-so year old Kenwood 5-disk changer. It is a wonderful upgrade and is bringing me back to my cd collection big time.
So far, Ive been listening to vocal jazz Ella, Etta, Dinah, Sarah, Nancy, Peggy, Norah Elton Johns #1s western swing. Moving next to classics and soul.
The unit brings out the sensuality of great music. Highly highly recommended. Thank you vanns. Why anyone would return one of these units is beyond me. Just my good fortune to find it in clearance.

I am using this machine with Axiom Audio M60 tower speakers in a 5..i channel setup. So far I have been very pleased with both the sound quality and the construction. This machine is replacing an old Sony CDP370 purchased in 2001 which was also a single disc player..
I did not necessarily want multi-disc capability - just a well made high quality product and this is what I was looking for. For the price, you really cant go wrong.
Im noticing that the overall channel balance is much improved over what I had.
This machine looks and feels very well built. You could pay much more for something else, but why?

I had a Magnavox CD player that was over 20 years old. It played my CDs very faithfully , one disc at a time, with very good sound. There were lots of newer, fancier CD players out there, but I was quite content with this one. Then it died. I was surprised to see how few the replacement options were. The newer models tended to have a lot more bells and whistles that I did not want. I just wanted a CD player that faithfully reproduced the sound on my CDs, one disc at a time. I know the audiophiles doubt that this machine can do as well as the CD players that cost in the thousands and it probably cannot. At the price I paid, however, I could not be much happier. It is heavier than the Magnavox. The operations are very smooth. The sound seems to be transparent. I have never owned an Onkyo before, but I am familiar with the name as being a good company for people who feel they have a discerning ear, but not the budget to match. Back in the day, I would have paid this much for a cartridge and stylus.

Every once in awhile a bargain priced product turns out to be an unbelievable performer. The C-7030 is truly a diamond in the rough. I've been a hardcore audiophile since 1972 and I'm pretty good at spotting excellent products at prices too good to be true. When Onkyo introduced this Red Book cd player two months back I looked it over from top to bottom and knew I had to have it. My backup cd player a German built Technics was lost in a fire on 319 and I wanted a good player to serve as the source in my headphone only system. The C-7030 is quiet important with headphones, ultra-clean sounding and smooth up top, not easy to achieve with standard cd. The drawer action is smooth, not clunky.
The ergonomics are first rate. I love the uncluttered front panel and the green dot matrix display is beautiful against the black. The remote control is like one you would expect to be supplied with a much more expensive player. If you want a cd only player because its a hassle playing cds on dvd players and the like, buy the C-7030 and I'm sure you'll love it!

This unit fits the bill. So far I am very happy with its performance. I did had a little problem during setup getting the unit to work with Toslink at first. After consulting with Onkyos help desk, it was resolve with instruction to change the analog mode to digital in 2 minuets. They were very quick to recognize the problem. I think the user manual did not address the specific.
