This sub does add a bottom sound to outdoor listening areas. It is placed in a corner of my patio, underneath my outdoor speakers. As suggested in the manual, I used a primer and spray paint oiled-bronze and the sub now matches my patio furniture and is barely noticeable wife requirement.
I am using the sub with a five year old pair Polk Audio Atrium 65 SDIs. These are playing through a Denon AVR-3312CI, using Zone 2 Due to wiring constraints from the receiver to the patio area, the Atrium 65s are not wired through the sub but these speakers and the sub are wired on separate runs from a speaker selector that is connected to the 3312. I can control the volume of the speakers and sub separately from the speaker selector. Therefore, I am not using the built in crossover on the sub so I do get some of the lower-mid range coming through the sub which can be annoying at lower volumes. However a decrease in the volume of the sub in concert with lowering the volume of the speaker connector, cures most of that problem.
All in all this sub does meet its purpose of adding bass to the outdoor area got to remember Im not in my mancave listening to high end speakers and sub...just on my patio area. I received a lot of compliments from friends and family and Im sure as I tweak the setup, Ill become even more happy with my sub.
Note the wiring instructions in the manual are incorrect. You need to go to the Polk Audio website and find the special update for connecting the sub. The instructions in the manual put the right channel out of phase.
