I demoed these at Best Buddy Two years ago. Compared them to every thing in the better show room and found myself trying to decide between the CF- 70s and a pair of B&Ws that cost twice as much. Both sets looked terrific and sounded even better than any thing else in the hi end show room.
Using two recordings that I knew well in the demonstration I had to ask the sales person to turn off the subwoofer connected to the Energy speakers? He informed me that none was active during any of the songs I had played. I like to hear bass in music but have never been a fan of 2.1, the speakers should be enough without extra stuff messing with the sound of a good recording.
With that said, I bought the cheaper speakers and have been smiling ever since.
These towers do not need a sub to go with them. Good subs that can go below 34Hz are expensive and would ruin the sound of these great speakers!
These speakers are working wonderfully with the following components
NAD 316bee integrated 45 watt per channel stereo amp
Musical Fidelity V-LPS II phono preamp
Pro-ject Expression turntable with an LP Gear Cartridge
Squeeze Box radio
Teac CD player
Just a note to anyone who thinks they need a subwoofer with the CF70s, try moving your speakers around the room. Get some heavy curtains for the windows. Make or buy some bass traps.
These are rated at 34Hz-20Khz sub not required, at least with my modest setup.

The sound is fantastic, they are shipped in sturdy containers and they have a real owners manual not just a sheet of folded paper. Sad to say they were not from Vonns but I found them at XXXX in Memphis Tenn and they were shipped to Olympia via UPS for free. The best part is the price at $299 each or $598 a pair

I purchased several items from Vanns and everything arrived on time and in the manufactures box and packing materials. The Entertainment center installer is scheduled to install everything next week so I am unable to comment on the performance of my Marantz 7007 Receiver, Marantz 5007 Blue-ray player, and seven 7 Energy Speakers. I will have to comment on the performance of the system once I get some experience with it after all the components have been installed. We moved from a house with a theater and all of the best equipment to be had. Although we are now retired and not able to spend the kind of money that was invested in the theater, we expect comparable performance from our new system.
NOTE I have rated everything as a five 5 at this point as the system will not allow me to enter these comments without completing the questioner.

I noticed more clearity in the CDs and the errors from mp3 files which was expected. They sound great! I played the Blu Ray Hell Freezes Over from the Eagles when I hooked them up and they performed excellently. I plan on updating a few more speakers from the Energy company becuase of how well they perform.

I HAVE A LARGE FAMILY ROOM AND WHEN I CRANCKED UP THE VOLUME IT COMPLETELY FILLED THE ROOM WITH CRISP AND CLEAR HIGHS FROM THE TWEETER AND A VERY RESPONSIVE AND TIGHT BASS. Got a great deal on these, unfortunately UPS assaulted one so I got to listen to one on the left and my klipsch synergy f1 to the right for a spell. Glad I did because I was able to clearly hear the benefit side by side. At some frequencies I couldnt distinguish but throughout the entire middle range the energy took over completely and sounded fantastic doing it. Tweets were a bit kinder on the ears at closer range as well. As some say, the energy sound even better under high power, but still great at lower volumes. Match well with the center and bookshelves. Call and ask for a combo deal.

For the prices Vanns is selling these for its a no brainer to go with the C series flagship towers if you have room for them. They are crisp and sharp sounding. Some consider this series bright but i would consider them slightly crisp sounding. They are not bright like Klipsch speakers. They can easily fill mid to large rooms with full sound. I find the C series excellent for Home Theater usage. The 3 way design also works very well for music applications. There may be better speakers out there but for what Vanns is selling these for youre not going to find a better full range 3 way speaker like this. Energy is a quality brand and Vanns is the place to purchase them. Oh and by the way these look very elegant with or without the grills on.

I have had these speakers for a few months now, and I think that the price to performance ratio is hard to beat. If adequately powered, these speakers provide a surprising amount of bass from a pair of 6 12 inch woofers. The mid range and highs did not present any obvious faults. The highs can be a bit on the bright side, but nothing like a horn loaded speaker. It comes down to your personal preference as to if that appeals to you or not. Otherwise, these are neutral sounding speakers, as they were designed to be. My usage is about 80 home theater, and 20 music. For HT they are awesome, and for music they are more than adequate. If you are an audiophile, than maybe you can justify spending more on a pair of speakers. If you are a casual user, or fall just short of the audiophile standard, you will be more than satisfied with a pair of these speakers.

Theres no question they have the power to fill a good size room but they sound spot on at all volumes. The quality and craftsmanship of the build appears to be very good. I'm not really an audiophile, so my amateur ears are not on par with a true connoisseurs. However, I think these speakers sound great! They have more bass than I would have guessed for a speaker with only 2 x 6.5 woofers. The highs aren't quite as sharp as I hoped. It could be my settings though as I have not done a proper calibration with Audyssey.
For reference, I have them on a Denon 2112CI, 12 Polk sub, and Polk RC 65i in wall speakers. They are used with an even mix of music and movies. I think they are great for both, and I would like to get more of these speakes for other rooms. At this great price, you could use as front and rears if you use mostly for music. They easily deserve a 5 rating on a performanceprice metric.

After owning the lesser speaker of the CF family the CF-30 for approximately 2 weeks, I couldn't get enough, and wanted to experience the quality and depth of having two 6.5 woofers and a 5.5 midrange instead of the CF-30s two 5.5 inch woofers. After Vanns had a sale for the CF-70, I bought a pair immediately, and boy have I been impressed!
After opening the box double boxed Vanns insulated and well-packed shipping box, with the manufacturer box inside, the speakers were in perfect condition. I have several friends who have had to return their larger floorstanding speakers because of damages occuring during shipping. Vanns did an excellent job of making sure my purchase arrived quickly and safely.
The CF-70 pair I purchased was immediately hooked up to my Pioneer VSX-920-K receiver and sounded great right out of the box as I demoed it with music, movies, and games.
Music I love music. I listen to anything from classical to hip-hop. Putting my floorstanding CF-70s to the test, I set them to LARGE on my receiver, allowing them to have more bass output, and on the hip-hop and rap songs, the bass was crisp and tight, with just the right amount of oomph. For the classical and jazz, the instruments were bright and smooth. I found myself changing the reciever setting from 5.1 to 2.1 just to hear the music from the CF-70 towers.
Movies The first movie I popped into my Blu-ray player was Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. During battle scenes and while the robots transformed I heard almost every detail, and the CF-70 towers worked seamlessly with my subwoofer to recreate crystal clear explosions and gunfire. The woofers on those towers do an AMAZING job handling almost all ranges for speech, sound effects, and movie soundtracks.
Games There are two kinds of games played in my house shooters, and sports. Playing Halo Reach allowed me to see just how much sound these speakers could put out. After turning my receiver once again to stereo, I found myself fully immersed in sound and being able to hear anything from the aliens grunting next to me, to my buddys sniper fire from the other side of the canyon with amazing clarity. Turning it back to 5.1, I discovered that the sound of machine gun fire sounded like a whole new thing, as it was extremely clear, loud, and each bullet fired had its own punch that could be felt in the air. For sports I played NBA 2k11 and loved the way the crowd and sound effects sounded. I was completed enclosed in sound and felt like I was really there. The menu music that had started to annoy me before actually sounded great on these CF-70 speakers.
I played them soft, and I played them loud, and they sounded great on any listening volume.
If there was one thing I could change for these speakers it'd be the stands base legs. The weight of the speaker mixed with the fact that the legs don't offer much tip-resistance made it hard for me to find a spot where my daughter wouldn't tip it over or my cat wouldn't try jumping on it and possibly knock it down.
Overall though, this is a masterpiece, and if you can get it on a deal, its well worth the money. Getting it at Vanns is the way to go, too, as it insures you get your speakers in NEW condition with excellent shipping methods and warranties on speakers.

I have a small living room and decided that wiring and placement of a 5.1 system would be less than ideal, so I started considering a strong and lasting 2 channel solution. For a 5.1 solution I was considering Energys critically acclaimed Take Classic system
Early in my research I determined that the pros of tower speakers outweighed the cons and starting looking for something that looked good, sounded good, and didn't break the bank. Of course if I want 5.1 these would make a fantastic foundation.
First, my only real con the manual for the speakers was so bare it really doesn't tell you anything. Just a few pictures with some ambiguous exclamation points. If you don't know how to wire the speakers, find someone who can help you or look for assistance elsewhere.
I am 100 satisfied in my purchase of getting 2 of the Energy CF-70s. They lived up to my very high expectations and fill not just my living room, but dining area and kitchen with beautiful, CLEAN sound. For my receiver I got a new 5.1 Yamaha RX-371 that is an affordable and quality solution for most people, 100 satisfied with it as well.
I am not an audiophile but the imaging on these speakers is incredible. Bass is not something I am particularly concerned about, so I haven't tried pushing these to their limits but so far the bass is nice and tight and I have no doubt it has plenty of potential. Most people will get a subwoofer anyway.
If you're like me and your top concerns are style, quality, and value, I don't know of any other speaker that can top these, certainly not in this price range anyway. Packing from Vanns was extremely impressive as usual, they got here fast and safe. I think I'm already an Energy fan for life!

This is my second set of Energy speakers, behind a pair of CB-5s.
Manufacture of the cabinet is good, and comparable to the Polk Monitors. The veneer work on the rear of the Energys is the only real difference, being smooth backed without any overhang like the Polks. The Polks have a better grille mounting solution, especially if you intend to leave the grilles off. Both units can easily be biwiredbiamped.
Ive had the CF-70s set up in my office, next to a pair of Polk Audio Monitor60 Series IIs. Now, I will say that all speakers make sounds, and that really the question is if the sounds its making are agreeable with what you want to hear. Ill also say that it would probably be more fair to compare the CF-70s with the Polk Monitor 70s. But, this is what I had on hand. I used my old Pioneer VSX-29TX to do some AB comparisons after Id let the Energys break in some. The CF-70s are very bright compared to the Monitor60s, and Im finding I prefer that presentation to the relatively soft sound of the Polks. The CF-70 sounds bright along the lines of the horn loaded Klipsch KLF-20s I have at home, although the Klipsch speakers in that comparison are the better speaker. If you like a bright, sharp presentation in your speaker, pick a set of these up, you wont be disappointed. My only caution would be to make sure you get or already have a sub to go with these, particularly in the two channel arrangement. The Energy EW-100 I was using with the CB-5s is a good start.
Time to sell the Polks...

As for the sound, they are just fantastic. These speakers put out very nice sound in both movie and music applications. The bass goes down very low and the mid and highs are very solid but not taxing as on some speakers. These are a great addition to my 7.1 setup and I will have them for years to come.

As far as fronts for a home theater, these are rediculious. The music on TV shows and background sounds that I didn't know were there are present. Klipsch purchased Energy so I thought the Klipsch F-30s and Energy CF70s would be similar products. The F-30s are a newer product and a step-up in size from the CF70s, but the CF70s appear to be better crafted. On the other hand, the F-30s have some design change enhancements such as wider feet for stability. The sensitivity of the CF70 is good, but the F-30 is higher, therefore the F-30 takes less power for the desired loudness. Clarity is about the same with perhaps the edge going to the F-30s. This is not a feature by feather comparison since they are different class speakers.
Use
I purchased the CF70s expecting to eventually use them as a center channel or for rear surround speakers. They should be adequate for these purposes. If you intend to use them for left and right main speakers, your system will need a separate powered subwoofer since they only contain 6.5 inch woofers. They are suitable for smaller rooms and if you are expecting that “punch” of power, you will be disappointed. I tested them as left and right main speakers with a separate subwoofer, but the sound is pale compared to the system when set-up with the F-30’s as the left and right mains.
Bottom Line
Suitable for smaller rooms, good build quality, Vanns has excellent packing, and it is an adequate value if purchased for less than half the MSRP. Paying a little more per speaker for the Klipsch F-30s is well worth the extra money. If offered at the sale price again, I would purchase two more Klipsch F-30s, but I would pass on the Energy CF70s.

I purchased the cf-70s to replace my Mirage towers, and it was a great decision. These speakers have great imaging and a large soundstage in my small room. Ive owned several Canadian made speakers with good results. These however have more low end then the others. practically dont need a sub with them.My girlfriend even approves of them! I finally got to use the bi-amplification on my receiver and it lets these speakers loose with authority on demanding music. Im quite pleased and highly recommend the pair.

I listened to the CF50 speakers at a national retailer BB and was highly impressed with the sound but thought I could find a better price on line. One of the first places I looked was Vanns and I struck gold! I was able to buy the better CF70s for less money. I use them for both the home theater and also listening to classic rock and jazz.
They were delivered in only 2 or 3 days and were extremely well packaged. Vanns packed the factory boxes into much larger boxes with lots of stuffing around. They were in perfect shape when I received them.
The only negative that I have with the speakers is that they could use a bigger base so they would be a little more stable. I feel like it would only take a light bump to knock over a what is to me a very expensive speaker. This is the only reason Im giving it a 4 on the overall rating. I would certainly buy this speaker again.

I have auditioned many other speaker brands over the past 25 years or so, and purchased a very nice pair of Energy speakers 20 years ago, and still use them as my main listening speakers. At least until now. Side by side with my Energy 22.2s, the CF-70s are a little brighter and slightly louder with the same input level. The bottom end is perfectly flat like my 22.2s - not boomy, not loose, not tight - just right. Energy gets the bass right - to listen to a well recorded piano on these and my 22.2s is almost impossible to tell whether your actually there or not.
As for staging - they sound slightly wider than my 22.2s - which is interesting, since the 22.2s already seem very open - maybe thats an artifact of them being brighter slightly more treble.
The thing I admire most about the CF-70s and my 22.2s is the perfect midrange reproduction. Something that may other manufacturers have a hard time getting right. So easy on the ears - I could listen to them all day - I might just do that...

Like most people who care deeply about their audio systems, I went to my local audiovideo retailer and spent over an hour in their listening room. I listened to everything they had to offer.
My favorite speaker in my price range was the Energy CL-50. My second choice was the B&W 684B. I felt that the CL-50 was a little more musical and had a nicer sounding high-end.
After my listening session, I logged on to Vanns.com and saw that the CL-70s were on sale. The 70s are the next model up from the 50s. I purchased the CL-70s without hearing them, and wow...I am glad I did.
The CL-70s are everything the CL-50s are and more. The 70s have a much deeper bass and mid-bass, but dont lose that high-end refinement that I loved with the CL-50s.
To me, they are an outstanding value because I purchased them on sale. I cant say I could have purchased the 70s over the 50s if my only option was paying full price.
I am absolutely pleased with these speakers.
