Quality stereo sound
Incorporating Onkyo's proprietary Wide Range Amplifier Design (WRAT) with an isolated power transformer and discrete output stage, the TX8255 is focused on maintaining the purity of all your audio sources. And, with the capability to connect and control your iPod, this receiver gives you the versatility for a sweeping range of entertainment options.
High current, low impedance drive
It's easy to understand why high current might be a good thing for an amplifier, but what does impedance have to do with anything? Basically it's the resistance caused by the speakers and speaker wire. Connecting too many speakers, too much cable, or the wrong kind of speakers can create low impedance (a lower ohm rating than the receiver was designed for). This is difficult for typical amplifiers to handle and can cause them to heat up and distort. Onkyo's TX8255 high current design means there will be a good, steady flow of clean power from the amplifier to the speakers, regardless of these challenges. You get better sound no matter how loud you crank it up, and no matter what speaker types/designs are connected.
Remote Interactive compatible
On properly equipped Onkyo receivers like this TX8255, you can connect other Onkyo RI compatible products and use the receiver's remote to operate the functions of these additional components. The benefit of RI compatibility is an entire Onkyo system that operates from one, easy-to-use remote control. The components can also interact. For instance, pressing the Play button on the CD player automatically switches the receiver to CD input.
Included with purchase
Remote control, 2 AA batteries for remote, AM loop/FM wire antennas, Instruction Manual.

After reading many positive reviews of this amp, and looking for a nice stereo receiver, I purchased this unit from Vanns. The 8255 is very nice...well worth the price. The sound is much clearer than my other onkyo 7.1 channel ht model and is ideal for an independent stereo music set up. The phono input was a huge selling point and Im pleased with how my turn table sounds on it. The tuner pulls in stations my other receiver could not, even with the stock antenna. Im currently driving a pair of Polk Audio RTi3s and my music has never sounded better! Great product and Vanns service was excellent!

My 20 year old Pioneer VSX-3700S receiver croaked and I was looking for a functional equivalent. Like many other reviewers, I was interested in a simple audio system—phono, CD and maybe an iPod. Surprise No. 1-Most basic receivers no longer include phono jacks, so the user has to install a pre-amp to boost the signal from the turntable. Well, this Onkyo has phono jacks AND great reviews AND a great price from Vanns so the purchase decision was easy. Hooking up the unit was also easy, and everything worked from the get-go. I was hoping for sound as good as my old Pioneer produced. Surprise No. 2-CDs and vinyl sound MUCH BETTER with the Onkyo—clear, crisp, vivid sound, even from my 40 year old AR-2ax speakers.

Recieved my Onkyo Tx-8255 with much anticipation for great sound. Coupling this receiver with Onkyos C-S5VL Audiophile Super Cd Player was taken back by the lack of bass this receiver puts out. Listening through a pair of Sony Mdrv-6 Studio Monitor Headphones it is obvious that this unit could benefit from a dedicated headphone amp. The Specifications list 100HZ bass plus or minus 10db which is set to a great crossover frequency, however, without enough headphone power, this produces a very thin sounding lower end regardless of bass controll adjustment. Turning up the volume only make it louder not emphasize whats messing. For the money you get what you pay for, but the TX-8255 will leave you asking Wheres The Bass?

I ordered this receiver fro Vanns for a few reasons. First, it came highly rated as a good old classic two channel amplifier. Second, Vanns had it for the cheapest including shipping to be found on the Net. It is great not to have to worry about shipping. It was included! Let me start with the quality of the receiver. It is a modern day vintage amp more or less. It only does two channel. No bells and whistles, no nonsense. Just a simple amp with a few inputs and the ability to store radio stations...which is the bell or whistle I suppose. But this is NOT a bad thing. This is a wonderfully constructed amp. It is solid and sounds GREAT. It does just what someone with a nice turntable or CD player wants out of a good old two channel amplifier. I personally use it in tandem with a Numark TT200 turntable. I am not a DJ or anything, but enjoy my vinyl and wanted to inexpensively play records with new equipment. This match-up is tops. Message to Onkyo Keep up with this formula for future generations! It is great to have those 5.1, 7.1, 9.2, etc receivers of course, but keeping the good old 2 channel amps around with such a great build and sound quality at such a reasonable price is such a great commodity! As for Vanns, I will *always* place my orders with you guys from now on!

I bought this to replace a 1987 Onkyo TX-28 that finally gave up the ghost . Im not a big home theater type so I just needed a comparable stereo amptuner. The sound is everything Ive come to expect from Onkyo, and the tuner seems even stronger than the 28. Im using a Technical Pro 10 band EQ through the Tape 2 function to massage the feed to a pair of Klipsch SB-3 bookshelfs and a KSW-10 sub-woofer. I listen to pretty much everything except rap and country, and so far so good on all fronts. It sounds good making the windows hum, it sounds good at low level background volume, and it sounds good everywhere in between. The only criticism I can offer is that there is no loudness function for low volume use. The price of this unit was about a third of what I paid in 1987 for the TX-28....gotta love it! The 8255 chassis also appears to be an improvement in ventilation as well. I dont hesitate to recommend this unit to anyone shopping for a new basic amplifier. Onkyo rocks !!! PS Delivery from VANNs was, once again, ridiculously efficient.

I own a small recording studio and am also a serious audiophile. My main system is composed of Vandersteen 3A SIgnature speakers, Aragon power amp, Counter Point pre-amp and some very expensive speaker cables and component interconnects. I had thrown together a small bedroom system for my daughter a few years back, consisting of Paradigm speakers, an NAD CD player and an old Technics 75 watt receiver from the 80s. It sounded OK and she never really had any complaints, until the Technics died a month ago. Remembering that I had recommended an Onkyo receiver to my mom about 5 years ago and how good it sounded on her Vandersteen 1Cs, I took a chance and ordered this online without ever auditioning it in person. After hooking it up to my daughters speakers and CD player, I was surprised how much better the system sounded. Everything across the board sounded better. The hghs were smoother yet more detailed, the mids opened up and the bass was tighter, deeper and more controlled. I was EXTREMELY impressed with how good this 50 watt receiver sounded. While it won't win any prizes in the serious audiophile community, for the money, it beats the pants off of anything near its price range. The features and ease of use are very nice too. Kudos to Onkyo for making a decent sounding, easy to use receiver.

I bought this receiver based on all of the good reviews i had read on the internet. I was not disappointed! It is built well and looks pretty good. It has lots of volume, i cant go past the half way point on the volume knob without hurting my ears. The sound is completely clear. If there is no input you can crank the volume to the max and hear only silence, no hum or interference. One of the main reasons i decided to go with this unit was the presence of a phono input. Id say you cant beat this for the price you pay. I would expect this unit to have a much higher price tag. My only complaint about this receiver is it does not have the bass output that i had hoped. I bought a $20 Technics equalizer off eBay and it completely solved the problem. Get this onkyo for sure! That is unless you want a really fancy complicated high tech equalizer, this is pretty simple and basic physically, the audio output is outstanding.

Also handles A and B speakers in parallel easily without loss of volume or fidelity. FM reception with the included indoor antenna is surprisingly good even for some stations 50 miles away. AM reception with included indoor antenna is good for local stations in my location, not quite as good for distant 50-mile-away stations. The remote control is great and has many more functions than the old Radio Shack unit. Overall a really good receiver for a really good price.

As a non-techie, found instructions for hooking up to speakers clear and easy to accomplish. Met all my requirements including potential for future Sirius hookup and at an extremely competitive price. The chat pop-up on web site was most helpful in my purchase decision.

I needed a basic receiver to replace my 20 year old unit that was slowly dying. All I need is decent sound in a simple unit. TheTX8255 seemed just right. At home it has a good sound and enough inputs to handle my set up. Controls are straightforward and easy to use. Im happy.

I purchased this 2-channel receiver for use with an older set of high-end speakers with a rated maximum input of 60 watts.
The performance of the receiver is excellent and the controls are easy to use.

I was generally impressed with the build quality and performance of this reasonably priced amp. Constructed from quality materials that give lovely tactile feedback, its really quite nice to use and not bad to look at. Its not the most powerful amp in the world, but at this price point, its more than enough for your small bookshelf system. The clear, logical controls are both a pleasure to use and a satisfying throwback the same goes for the sound, which is clean and accurate, balanced and easy. It will happily play at 710ths and more all day long, but lacks the hyped-up punch and sizzle of many modern amplifiers if youre a fan of acoustic music classical, jazz, world, etc this will be just what youre looking for in your home office. If youre looking to blow out your windows and doors with electronica, there are probably better choices. Mostly, this is built in the old style, for people who enjoy to listen to music through two channels in whatever room they find themselves spending the most time in. Compared to much of anything else in the price range, its easily the best product. A welcome addition to any stereo geeks collection of machines with a touch of whimsy and soul.
