Marantz doesn't fool around

Faithful to audio reproduction at all levels, Marantz puts just as much love into their SA-CD players as they do their receivers, tuners, and integrated amps. Created with the audio aficionado in mind, the SA8004 employs high quality film capacitors for superior transient speed and better bass response. It also utilizes Marantz's proprietary Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module, or HDAM, at critical analog circuit junctions to insure smooth and ultra-fast signal transfer from one stage to another. The high quality D/A converters come from tried and trusted Cirrus Logic, and they're capable of handling high definition audio data streams (DSD and 24-bit/192 kHz PCM signals) without losing one single ounce of composure. And, for those of you who need the audio signal pumped directly into your eardrums, a current-buffer headphone amplifier is included for extraordinary sound quality.

Because pure doesn't mean forgoing future technologies

The dreaded MP3 format. Compressed to death in the ears of many aficionado. But often, the key to bliss is acceptance. In fact, in many contexts compressed formats like MP3 prove to be extremely convenient (or impossible to avoid). For example, imagine a friend arrives with some music selections of their own. For ease, they've quickly copied some MP3 or WMA files from their computer or MP3 player onto a CD disc or thumb drive. No problem — in addition to SA-CD and CD audio, the Marantz SA8004 supports SA-CD, CD-DA, MP3, WMA, WAV, and AAC audio formats, and it even has a front panel USB port for rapid deployment. (There's a rear USB type B connector if you want to hook up your own computer.) Remember, just because you avoid anything short of perfect reproduction doesn't mean it won't show up on your doorstep some day, and you wouldn't want to have to resort to shunning a friend based on their aural tolerance, right? (Just nod in the affirmative.)

But when purity does count . . .

Marantz pulls out all the stops. It's no secret that audiophiles want everything just as it was recorded. If you're of that persuasion, you'll really appreciate the SA8004's exclusively designed original Xyron Loader for better resonance and greatly reduced vibration. The Xyron loading mechanism provides the perfect depth, volume energy, and aural excellence you've come to expect from Marantz.

External dependability

While the design and construction of the SA8004's internal components ensures high-fidelity audio performance, the same can be said of this SA-CD player's external chassis design. Constructed of double-layered bottom chassis, the SA8004's framework delivers isolation from external vibration as well as from electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference. And if you're tired of trying to shoe-horn your audio connectors into the component's terminals . . . apparently Marantz was too. That's why they built the SA8004 with widely-spaced terminals. Plus, they're gold-plated brass (i.e. highly conductive) with a zero impedance copper ground plate and chassis mounted, so it won't feel like you're going to rip the guts out of the SA8004 when you attach or detach a connector. Really, it's the little things.

Marantzs 8004 SACDCD player is an outstanding digital player in every respect. Smooth, intuitive operation, wonderfully rich sound thats detailed but not over-analytical, and just damn fun to listen to. I am not using this for SACD, but it is stellar for redbook CD and makes tracks on my iPod sound amazing. I'm not surprised this player is commonly out of stock. Its one of the best bargains in high-end audio because it pretty much delivers an audiophile experience at a real-world cost at least for those serious about faithful reproduction of music. For what its worth, I listen to mostly pop, classic rock, and soundtrack scores. This player sings with all types of music, though.

The SA8004 meets and exceeds all the rave reviews it has gotten. My CD collection is now alive and my audiophile system is producing better sounds and quality than I have ever heard! Yes, the CDs do have sounds I never heard before - its like being front row, center of a concert!
